AVC Externship Grants

The AVC-Foundation Board of Directors approve funding of a grant program to financially assist veterinary students working in an externship or preceptorship program or summer employment at an AVC member-practice. The grants are in the amount of $500 per student. The funds can be used as the student needs to help offset the expenses encountered during an externship (i.e., fuel, meals, lodging, etc.). In addition, $500 per Externship Grant recipient will be provided to offset meeting attendance expenses if the recipient attend an AVC meeting the year of the grant receipt or the year following grant receipt. The $500 meeting expense offset will be presented at the qualifying meeting. 
The requirements are:
  1. You must be currently enrolled in a veterinary college
  2. A demonstrated interest in Beef Production Medicine (cow-calf, stocker, and/or feedlot)
  3. A financial need
  4. The externship must take place with a member of the AVC
The Scholarship Committee is depending greatly on AVC members that are in contact with veterinary students and know their interests to encourage students to complete the application. 
Final selection of the Externship Grant recipients will be made by the AVC-Foundation Scholarship Committee. Applications are accepted from November 25, 2025 to January 31, 2026.

  1. Students should submit the online application AVC Externship Grants
  2. Students need to have the veterinarian where their externship will take place complete the application process by indicating that they are will to accept the student for the externship.  The Externship Veterinarian must be an AVC member and should complete the short agreement by clicking here. AVC Externship Veterinarian (host for student extern)
